:) plz help need on the following :
A motorcycle traveling at 60 miles per hour overtakes a car traveling at 30 miles per hour that had a three-hour
head start. How far from the starting point are the two vehicles?

my approach on this one is
given T the time the motocycle is driving

60 t= 30 ( T+3) is this correct ?

Setup equations based on how far the motorcycle and the car travelled in x amount of time. The distance travelled should be equal.

The similar thing between the two is distance.

Let the time travelled by car be x hours.

Then distance travelled by the car = d = 30x
And ditance travelled by the bike = d = 60(x-3) = 60x - 180

Now we can equate:

30x = 60x - 180
180 = 30x
x = 180/30 = 6 miles

Your equation is correct.

t=3
d=60*3 = 180 miles

Yup. 180. Similar to another prpoblem today. The thing to remember is to think as "they meet after 't' time"

so A would have travelled 30*3 + 30t = 90+30t and B 60t

so 90+30t = 60t => t = 3 => distance = st = 60*3 = 180 miles.
