i encountered this kind of question in 800score tests,

so cab driver charges u $1.5 for the first 1/4 miles
u have $3.1
we know that after the first 1/4 miles we have 3.1-1.5=$1.6

if cab driver charges u $0.2 per 1/4 we can trip for $1.6 only 8 quarter miles or 1.6/0.2=8

1/4+8*1/4=2.25 miles

This is relatively easy.

1.50 is the first 1/4 mile

Subtract 310-150 = 160 (Forget the decimals for now)

160/20 = 8. Now b/c these are quarter miles you must divide by 1/4 to get the actual miles.

8/4 = 2miles. Don't forget to add the first 1/4 mile

so 2 1/4 miles = 2.25 miles.

Break it down... You're going to get charged 1.50 right off the bat so first things first

3.10 - 1.50 = 1.60 (note, that got you 1/4 mile)

Now your getting charged .20 per 1/4 mile so....
1.60 / .20 = 8 more 1/4 miles

First Mile + 8 more = 9 quarter miles or 2.25 miles.
