Your 90+ overall with a sub-70 verbal is a very specific shape, and it's worth understanding how SPJIMR actually reads that combination before you assume the worst.

- On the CAT side, SPJIMR has historically been less mechanical about sectional cutoffs than IIMs are, but the verbal score still gets read qualitatively. The shortlist filter may let you through on overall, but the GD-PI panel will treat a weak VARC as a signal about communication readiness, which is the one trait PGPM is built around.

- The earlier reply was right that GMAT has stricter sectional behaviour, but don't take that to mean CAT verbal is invisible. SPJIMR's PGPM cohort is small and consulting-heavy in placements, and verbal weakness reads as a client-facing risk, not just a test artifact. That's the lens to plan around.

- The lever you actually have is the GE-PI-Interview round, which carries serious weight at SPJIMR relative to peer schools. A clean, articulate performance there can functionally overwrite a weak VARC, because the panel is literally testing the skill your sectional underperformed on. I've seen PGPM converts with similar verbal gaps land offers because the interview erased the doubt.

- One reframe worth holding. Adcoms aren't scoring your VARC in isolation; they're asking whether the overall profile, essays, and interview tell a coherent story of someone who can hold their own in a case discussion. If your work experience involves stakeholder communication, lean into that hard in the SIP essays.

- Verify the current cycle's sectional policy on the official SPJIMR admissions page before you build a strategy on assumption. Call or email if still not clear. Policies shift year to year.

Hi Everyone,
Does SPJIMR have a strict check on sectional scores when applying with CAT scores for their PGPM program. I do have a 90%+ score but shy of 70% in Verbal. Would this be rejected straightaway or impact my profile or maybe be considered somehow elsewhere?
