Dear All,
I came across this question in the MGMAT SC guide, chapter 5
exercise questions:
question 1
Researchers have found a corelation between exercise and earning good grades.
The guide mentions that an action noun could be parallel to a gerund
earning good grades is a gerund form and exercise is an action noun!
the guide gives an example
"the uprising and the escape" as one for parallelism of action noun and gerund.
Should we not leave the sentence as it is, instead of making it
exercising and earning good grades?

Hi Shiv,
To make it simple.
"the uprising and the escape"---This is an example of complex gerund The Verbing Noun has to be parallel The Noun ..
whereas the example you quoted is different..
So here Excercing (Verbing ) will be parallel to earning good grades
or
the exercise and the earning of good grades.
Both will be fine.
