Cavendish claimed to be as ambitious as any woman could be, but knowing that as a woman she was excluded from the pursuit of power in the real (35) world, she resolved to be mistress of her own world, the “immaterial world” that any person can create within her own mind—and, as a writer, on paper.
We have two things that Cavendish claimed to be, "as ambitious as any women could be" and "as a writer,on paper", both things parallel ?? Maybe not first is adjective(ambitious) second is noun(writer).
Also what purpose does "-" in "-and," in the last but one line serve, why would we need the comma ?
Thanks in advance !
