Hi,
I came across this sentence on internet, and would like to know whether that in the sentence is modifying sentence word or the word words? If it modifies word words then why does the clause after the and refers it as singular (is)?
A sentence is a collection of words that convey sense or meaning and is formed according to the logic of grammar.

sony26 - Your opening phrase, came across this sentence on internet, is a red alert. In GMAT Club, we advice test takers to refer only to reliable sources. Having said that, I would say that the relative pronoun, that, refers to neither sentence nor words. In this sentence, the relative clause refers to collection. In other words, that refers to the noun phrase: collection of words. You may want to review certain concepts of modifiers. I hope this post helps you. All the best!

Well, regret for not knowing that i cannot pick it from internet but it does come from a reliable source. Anyway, thanks for the response and clarification. I still could not get it much clear as A collection refers as singular whereas convey implies a plural verb agreement.
Any source where modifiers can be best understood ?
