The exact risk of a patient contracting HIV from an infected surgeon is not known, but hospital officials say the risk is low. "No one has ever found a case in the medical field," says John Bartlett, director of the Hopkins AIDS program. Last year, a patient reported contracting AIDS from a dental surgeon, but the allegation has not been proven. As of December 1st, CDC reported 24 documented cases and 16 possible cases of health care workers contracting HIV through their jobs.
Which proposition below, if true, would strengthen the hospital officials' conclusion ?
A The allegation of the dentist's patient is false.
B There were only 20 documented cases of health care workers contracting HIV.
C There really were 16 possible cases of health care workers contracting HIV, in addition to the 24 documented cases.
D The dentist mentioned had never been tested for HIV
E John Bartlett was a surgeon at Hopkins.

I take (A) even though i think it is too weak to strenghten. That the allegation is false does not tell us much about the probability of contracting AIDS from a surgeon. The other options though are no good.
OE:
The hospital officials' conclusion is that the risk of a patient contracting HIV from an infected surgeon is low. This conclusion would be strengthened if the only reported case of a patient being infected by a surgeon turns out to be false, (A). It is impossible to judge the relevance of the information on health workers becoming infected, since we are not told if any of them are surgeons, or how they became infected.
