Robert Chase, the publishing magnate, has a net worth of 5 billion dollars and has been accepted as a member at the Brown Country Club.

it beneath his dignity to associate with anyone in the entertainment industry. Hence, his petition will be accepted.
(E) Chase has not financed any Hollywood movies.

Plants that exhibit certain leaf diseases tend to measure extremely high in the amount of zinc in their leaf and stem tissue. Botanists have discovered that phosphorus of the type typically used in a phosphorus-high fertilizer reacts with the zinc in such a way as to prevent treated plants from exhibiting the leaf diseases. Thus, plants can be cured from these leaf diseases by the use of a fertilizer high in phosphorus. The passageâ€™s conclusion is based upon which one of the following premises?
(A) Plants with certain leaf diseases contain the same high level of zinc in their leaf and stem tissue.
(B) Zinc is the cause and not merely an effect of the leaf diseases.
(C) Treating the plants with a fertilizer high in phosphorus will have no negative effect on the plants.
(D) The amount of phosphorus-high fertilizer which should be used depends upon the size and location of the plants.
(E) Normal plant tissue does not contain zinc.

1) E - Publishing does not necessarily need to be associated with the entertainment industry. 

A - could have been a possibility. He was approved before the criteria was set. If that was the case then the ans C is also a possibility. Hence rejected A.
Why E - If publishing is not associated with entertainment industry, then E is the only possible choice

OA: E and B.

I misread the first argument. I thought Robert has 5 million dollars instead of 5 billion dollars. Now E makes sense.

For the second one why cant it be C. 

The argument says that plants that have amount of zic exhibit certain leaf diseases and hence fertilizers high in phosphorous can be used to treat the plants. 

So isnt it assumed that fertilizers high in phosphorous would not harm the plants.

B is correct because the first premise tells us that plants with certain leaf disease measure extremely high in the amt of zinc. It sounds like zinc is an effect of having the leaf disease.
However, in the second premise, we're told that one the effects of the zinc is neutralized, the plants do not exhibit the leaf disease anymore. Suddenly, the zinc is more of the cause and not the effect.
Thus the conclusion that the plants can be used cured by the fertilizer high in phosporus is based on the fact that zinc is the cause and we're able to cancel out that cause.

Now C is not really useful. The fact that it has no negative effect doesn't mean that it is able to eliminate the cause of the leaf disease effectively, thus preventing it from occuring again.

Yes, I actually solved the first as B. I didn't like the restrictive Hollywood. Entertainment could be just normal TV programs too...
