Cello claims that its latest model of paper pen series can last for anywhere between 10,000 and 12,000 words. Adam participated in a story writing competition in which each candidate has to write a story at least 5,000 words long and submit it in 30 days. Adams wrote a story using the latest Cello pen (He purchased a new one), but didn't get any time to count the words. Before submitting, he checked the pen's ink level, which was a little less than a quarter. Adam used the pen for no other purpose, still his story got disqualified for being just 3,564 words long.
If only Adam used the pen since its manufacturing then which of the following best explains the discrepancy.
