A survey of food preferences by the school cafeteria showed that casseroles, which were identical in every respect except the spice used, received very different ratings. Therefore, we can expect in the future to find no variation in the spice used.
Which assumption is a logical inference from the above passage?
A) If the preferred spice is not used, the buyer is usually willing to accept another spice.
B) Casseroles differ significantly from each other with respect to food value.
C) There is a single spice generally preferred in the casseroles tested.
D) Menu descriptions of this dish should list all the ingredient.
E) Shoppers give more emphasis to flavor than to price in food purchasing.
Whats wrong with A?

A is contradicted by the passage. If buyers will readily accept other spices, that means the spices dont matter much to them and the ratings would all be teh same. The passage states that the ratings are very different, meaning some spices are unacceptable and others are acceptable.

My choice is C too.
Casseroles differ in type of spice .
Assumption:One of the spice(say X) is popular and the casserole which contains X received highest ratings.
we are seeking for an assumption so it must be true in order that the conclusion be true itself. Neither A or C if true or wrong will affect the truth of the conclusion.
However if we assume the contrary of E, that is the shoppers give more attention to price than to flavor then the conclusion that their will be no variations in the spice used in the future will be flawed because no one can predict changes in future prices depending on the market.
Therefore E should be the right answer.
