BUT the two choices D and E in which satellite internet is modified by longer lag times are saddled with problems such as altered intent and run –on.

Am I right or should we ignore them?

I believe B and E are the contenders. OA is E
OE given is:
Rural dwellers can get satellite internet, but with longer lag times(Modifies satellite internet), it is far slower than the ambitious satellite services that were being developed a decade ago.(Modifies ambitious satellite services)

Though it can be argued that "longer lag times" can modify ambitious satellite services or developed, it doesn't make sense to suggest that ambitious satellite services have more lag time. Rather, it makes more sense that the old satellite internet has more lag time. So altered intent is also a reason to rule out B.

I read the question on one site as an example for modifiers, I made up the remaining 4 options juggling the sentences. :)

a)Rural dwellers can get satellite internet, that were being developed a decade ago, but it is far slower than the ambitious satellites services ,with longer lag times.

b)Rural dwellers can get satellite internet, but it is far slower than the ambitious satellite services that were being developed a decade ago, with longer lag times.

c)Rural dwellers can get satellite internet, but are far slower than the ambitious satellite services that were being developed a decade ago, with longer lag lag times.

d)Rural dwellers can get satellite internet, but with longer lag lag times, are far slower than the ambitious satellite services that was being developed a decade ago.

e)Rural dwellers can get satellite internet, but with longer lag times, it is far slower than the ambitious satellite services that were being developed a decade ago.

I narrowed the choices down to B and E as well as they were the only probable options (although neither was to my liking). I selected B because believed both "but it is... " and ", with longer lag times" referred back satellite internet. Choice E I ruled out because but with does not have a clear referent in "but with" it could refer to rural dwellers or internet. So even though B has the undesired "being" in there with an awkward construct it was the best option to me.

If you are going to use a comma joining the two independent sentences, it is a run-on. Therefore E is an awfully wrong sentence, . Please re-check the Choice E and it must have avoided the run-on,if it were from an authentic source.

I agree with E being incorrectly formed run-on..it cannot be correct even with a semi-colon..

But I donot agree with B either...

"Rural dwellers can get satellite internet, but it is far slower than the ambitious satellite services that were being developed a decade ago, with longer lag times."

In option B, "with longer lag times" seem to be a modifer of the ambitious satellite services...

I raise the white flag. Option E was an example given for modifier question. I jumbled up the options and made a question as I felt the question was not that easy to grasp. :)
So cant argue much on the explanation.
Yeah, when I first read the example, It looked a bit wordy for me. But it is what it is. :)

If E did not have the run-on problem, it would be the best. But I will give a kudos to mattapraveeen for his initiative to explore unchartered waters. After he falters a hundred times, he will be making the best of the posts in gmatclub, instead of going round and round hackneyed stuffs.

I took my exam last year in Dec, and was mighty disappointed..planning to re-take in this Dec...
added LSAT papers for RC, and Manhattan for SC, PowerScore for CR...and many practice ques like 700-800, 1000 series, etc..

did couple of GMAT tests, but I found them wastage of time..they are far too easier than the current question base of GMAT..

whats your arsenal like?

PS: consider kudos :)

:) that was very hilarious......... arsenal etc.....

gave my exam last Sunday...pushing myself to give it a go again in first week of jan...

added e-gmat online course for SC, paid 100$ and got powerscore LSAT RC shipped by amazon...( Yeah.....I ve gone crazy. :x ....wasting a lot of money.... But if all the investment helps me in getting a 38 or 39 in V, I wont mind it)

Have LSAT CR and GMAT CR bible of powerscore. Decided to stick with GMAT CR bible. :)

Let me see...... subscribed to the GMAT club tests for Q :)

Not getting any time though to prepare. Work has been very demanding off late and all my above arsenal are laying eggs in my room  . Need to push myself a bit.

Are the 1000 SC so bad?? :? Was planning on finishing them :) after I complete my e.gmat course.

The above question is from that course.

I am liking it. Not sure how helpful it is. It starts from the basics and having given the exam once, and having got my basics right, I am scoring 100% :) in the initial tests. haven't gone the distnace yet, but its good. Hopefully the advance topics wil help me more.
It makes you think in a different way and approach all questions in a single point method of divide and rule. Its approach is to divide the sentence to bare minimal phrases and clauses and then attack the question.
I am impressed with the approach, but not sure yet....how helpful it is.
