- serve a multipurpose is wrong, so D is out. Uses like for giving examples. Wrong! - items that will be used to store cleaning supplies, recharging alkaline batteries (This is not parallel, ideally it should be "to store cleaning supplies, recharge alkaline batteries" or "for storing cleaning supplies, recharging alkaline batteries." So A, E are out.
Coming to B and C... In B, they used 'which' to refer to the 'items', but it is incorrectly referring to 'multiple purposes'. In this sentence, it says 'multiple purposes may be used for purposes such as storing ...' which is wrong. In C, the problem is cracked by clearly referring to 'items' and it is getting modified correctly.
One more rule is 'such as' should always be used if you're providing some examples. Answer option D uses 'like' to give examples, which is wrong.
The answer is C.
