The second sentence seems to be structurally wrong.
The first sentence says price of Gold fell by 30 $ from what it was at close of market yesterday. But the second sentence is actually comparing reduction in price today from market price of yesterday. we can compare either the the reduction in price today with reduction in price yesterday or market price of today with market price of yesterday. we can say 'the price of gold fell 30 $ today as compared to 20 $ yesterday'. But we can't compare reduction in price today with absolute price at end of yesterday.
And we can also say 'The price of gold fell 30 $ less today than it fell yesterday'. (means if yesterday price of gold fell by 20$, today it fell by 50$)
