you have a point there, A may be correct, we probably don't need a partciple phrase here. Usage of was & placed kind of thew me off in choice A

I will also choose (A).

(C): The rebuilding of the temples on the Acropolis was directed by the great Pericles, and the sculptor Phidias being the one placed in charge.
Passive Construction

(D): The rebuilding of the temples on the Acropolis was directed by the great Pericles, in charge there was the sculptor Phidias
Run-on Sentence

(E): The rebuilding of the temples on the Acropolis was directed by the great Pericles, having the sculptor Phidias placed in chage
Says: Pericles placed Phidias incharge before the before the project was started. (Changes meaning)

(B): placing in charge (of what : missing)...

i got this question in an another forum, where the OA mentioned by the author is "B". (https://www.sentencecorrection.com)

i also opted "A" as most of you have opted. that is why i have posted this question here.

can any one justify, why 'B' is correct instead of 'A'.

praveen can you elaborate why you opted 'B' over 'A'
