The correct word is "select few" (gives the appearance of being lucky) and not "selected few" (gives an appearance of being chosen).

Thus A, C and D are out.

B spoils the sentense by using an extra only after the comma.

Hence E.

(B) is out --> portions (should use leave)
A swarm of desert honeybees is singular since the swarm is collective. Therefore singular 'occurs' should be used instead of occur.
So (A) and (C) are out.

I'll take (E). 'Only a select few' describes the priviledged few who gets to witness the phenomenon. (D) uses only 'very few selected scientists..' suggests out of a select group, only a few from this group gets to witness the phenomemnon.

E it is.

(E) is the OA. I was confused with what to use between select and selected.

A swarm of desert honeybees, a phenomenon seen by few of the select scientists and entomologists, occur when a portion of the colony leave the current nest to find a new home.

(A) few of the select scientists and entomologists, occur when a portion of the colony leave
(B) a select few scientists and entomologists, only occurs when portions of the colony leaves
(C) very few selected scientists and entomologists, occur when only portions of the colony leave
(D) only very few selected scientists and entomologists, occurs when a portion of the colony leaves
(E) only a select few scientists and entomologists, occurs when a portion of the colony leaves

BTW D and E.
'select' can act as adjective.

'select scientists' is right.

Go with E.
