I would risk E here

Here's why, term 'segue' refers to a process, not a direction since 'it' in the original refers to 'segue' and not the term itself, saying the segue is a process. So term needs to refer to a process, not a direction.
So D is out.

now, in the original 'it' has to refer to a term, since the whole meaning of the sentence revolves around 'the term', only E does

Addition: I am not 100% sure that 'it is in reference' is proper English (i'd rather say it is used in reference to),
If it's incorrect than A is the only choice, altough not parallel.

I choose D, as it refers to "the term seague" so by replacing it by by "the term seague" only D makes sense
