A for me

D uses verb-ing modifier and makes the sentence awkward and wrong
Bingo.

When a sentence opens with an "-ing" verb, the entire opening phrase set off by a comma serves as an adjective. However, the noun following the extended phrase is "Pylades." Is Pylades "excepting" anything? No, not really--we are excepting things in our discussion. Thus, the modifier is illogical and choice D is wrong.

Hope this helps!
