B is wrong as reason......because is not the right usage
C is wrong as it incorrectly uses where
D is wrong as it incorrectly uses the phrase - due to the fact of chornic.....
E is wrong as there is no S-V agreement - we need is instead of are

2. Chronic low-level leaking and the routine discharge of drilling mud and mineral salts present considerable environmental risk during offshore oil drilling.
(A) Chronic low-level leaking and the routine discharge of drilling mud and mineral salts present considerable environmental risk during offshore oil drilling.
(B) The reason offshore oil drilling presents a considerably environmental risk is because of chronic low-level leaking and the routine discharge of drilling mud and mineral salts.
(C) A considerable risk to the environment is presented during offshore oil drilling, where low-level leaks are chronic and the routine discharge of mud and mineral salts.
(D) Offshore oil drilling presents a considerable risk to the environment due to the fact of chronic low-level leaks, and mud and mineral salts are routinely discharged.
(E) Chronic low-level leaking, along with the routine discharge of drilling mud and mineral salts, are what make offshore oil drilling environmentally risky.

E Wrong -- sub and verb disagree.
"are" should be "is" --- "make" should be "makes"
B (1) the reason and because -- redundant.
(2) changes the meaning of orginal sentence. Ofshore oil drillling presents a considerable rsik but orginal sentence intention is "chronic low level leaking and routine discharge.... presents considerable risk".
D) (1) changes the meaning of original sentene as discussed in B
(2) "due to the fact of" is wordy and can be replaced by "because of"
C - "where" refers to oildrilling.. which is incorrect.

A is the best answer.

(B) The reason offshore oil drilling presents a considerably environmental risk is because of chronic low-level leaking and the routine discharge of drilling mud and mineral salts.
the reason...because. redundant
because of. ALWAYS wrong

(C) A considerable risk to the environment is presented during offshore oil drilling, where low-level leaks are chronic and the routine discharge of mud and mineral salts.

(D) Offshore oil drilling presents a considerable risk to the environment due to the fact of chronic low-level leaks, and mud and mineral salts are routinely discharged.
the fact is always wrong. wordy.

(E) Chronic low-level leaking, along with the routine discharge of drilling mud and mineral salts, are what make offshore oil drilling environmentally risky.

because of. ALWAYS wrong <-- Good point!

Can you elaborate why "because of" always wrong.

e.g. Continental Airlines sues google "because of" scammy advertising.
Is some thing wrong with this setence????

I vote for (A).

(A) Keep.

(B) distorts the original meaning by using "The reason is ... because...".

(C) Can we use "where" to refer to "oil drilling"?

(D) "due to the fact of" seems awakard.

(E) "Chronic low-level leaking" is singular, so the verb should be "is".

A
But can someone please confirm the reason to eliminate E? Do we really need to use "is"? Instead of "are"?
Thanks
