Explanation:

Look for Conjunctions and/or multiple descriptions. The list in this sentence is the list of things the computer test will do: fail to detect a virus ....and indicate ...

Rule and Fix:
A list must be of all nouns or all verbs and must be balanced. The list is currently not balanced since the beginning of the list uses "it is present" but the end of the list does not balance that by using it (the end of the list uses the pronoun "one."

POE:
A, B, D and E (neither D nor E properly balance the list.

B/D out. we need noun after "fail to detect x" not a clause beginning "when"


"E" is too wordy and long. Between A & C, C is the better choice.
