In 1825, the construction of the Erie Canal leaded to a raise in the speed of transporting livestock from New York's Hudson River to the Great Lakes and the Midwest.

a.In 1825, the construction of the Erie Canal leaded to a raise in the speed
b.In 1825, the construction of the Erie Canal rose the speed
c.In 1825, the construction of the Erie Canal led to a rise in the speed
d.In 1825, the construction of the Erie Canal increased the rise in speed
e.In 1825, the construction of the Erie Canal increased the speed

A is out for "leaded" and " raise"
B and D and E are out coz the construction didn't directly/ physically increase the speed
C it is.

Well, we don't RISE SPEED.
Instead, we INCREASE SPEED.

Thus, I vote for (E).

a) Out: The word leaded is not correct
b) Out: Rose is unidiomatic in this context
c) Out: Led to a rise is wordy and unneccessary
d) Out: "Increased the rise" is unidiomatic

I pick E because it is concise and clear

you it should be E.

C is using redundant lead to.

A, B and D is simply awkward.

C for me

gamjatang
Well, we don't RISE SPEED.
Instead, we INCREASE SPEED.

"it is A rise in speed" and "not rise speed", so i think it's different
but i agree that i would say "increase" the speed rather than "rise" the speed

However, E is wrong because the construction didn't do anything by itself
it led to something else

so it's A or C

A is incorrect (leaded + raise)

clear C
