E)...present tense is needed b/c "are" is simple present. so its "percieve" and not "percieved". "...posed by..." is a past particilple that correctly modifies "threat of...".

I think E is the best.

Perceive as is idiomatic.
threat to is also idiomatic.

E is clear and concise.

sorry ywifred, B is not the best answer. This was a difficult one in my opinion. Although i do not have an explanation.


hmm.. yes, we need a present tense 'perceive' as it gels in with the 'preparing for a major political effort'. D is not suitable as 'are perceiving' suggests a on-going process, which clearly isn't the case. C is plain awkward.

E is indeed the best choice. Good one !!

B is out because of the use of perceived..should be perceive.

E over B for the present tense in the dependent clause.

I also choose B at the beginning and since apparently it is not the right answer, I would vote for E, however the connection at the end of the sentence seems mysterious to me.

E. simple present tense is required here.

in B, "perceived as ...... as" is wrong. the correct idiom is "perceived as".
