Dont you guys think, the answer should be E.

One of the three best novels written by a Black American....??

I am very confused with this type of construction. Can someone throw more light on it?

May be Prat can help us on this issue?

only in B and E you are comparing the books not the author. so A,C a and D is out.

in E the use of being is awkward.

It should be 'B'.

The sentence says, "One of the three best novels written by...", the subject here is 'novels'.

One of the three best novels written by Black Americans...

Only B is correct.

need plural, "black americans". so only choices are A and B are close to the answer. "the three best novels ever have been written by "Black Americans, not by a single black american. A is awakward with "others being....".

remains B..

One more B.

E is too awkward while including... in B is very clear.

B does not make sense to me. Only E makes the best comparison. What are we comparing here? The subject of comparison is actually Cane. B says that either Cane or Black Americans include other novels such as Native Son and Invisible Man, either of which is illogical.
This is wrong because we are instead making an enumeration of what those pieces of work are. If you read E properly, it first mentions Cane, and then says that the others(books) are X and Y.

A mixture of poems and short fiction, Jean Toomer’s Cane has been called one of the three best novels ever written by a Black American—the others being Richard Wright’s Native Son and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man

E clearly maintains parallel structure.

It's a trap if you select E for llism.
I vote for 'B'

A - 'Black Americans—the others being Richard Wright....', changes the meaning. Seems to say Richard Wright is the name of the novel.
B - Correct meaning.
C,D - changes the meaning. Seems to say Richard Wright is the name of the novel.
E - Close but distorts the sentence.

Hence B.

B. Black Americans—including Native Son by Richard Wright and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

E. a Black American—the others being Richard Wright’s Native Son and Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man

I choose E for the following reasons:
one of three best novels ever written by a Black American
the three best novels ----> a group . If we use "including" , the three novels should be listed all together! However, since one of the three is mentioned before, we shouldn't use "including" ( with only two are listed) here.
