ANSWER Explanation: A incorrectly implies that Mitch was the highest salary. B has no clear reference for "it". In C, the construction "$550,000, being the..." is unidiomatic. The construction "annual pay...per year" in D is redundant. E is the best answer.

Probably D is only redundant. And yes there is the typing error "...per year" in the book.

Clearly 'the highest salary in professional baseball at that time' must modify the salary. Hence, E is the best.
