E for me. Only B and E would be grammaticaly correct. Meaning with E is better because the sentence is trying to convey a cause-effect ralation.

OE:

Spot the Error:
The presence of underlined verbs indicates that verbs are being tested. The presence of "expanded" in the underlined portion indicates that the sentence is testing verbs.

Rule and Fix:
A verb must agree with the noun that is refers to and must use the appropriate tense. Since the action happened last week the tense in the first clause is correct. The use of "expanded" however, is incorrect because in order to describe an action that happened at the same time as the other verb in the sentence, but still maintain the fact that the collection STILL covers a larger breadth we need a different tense.

POE:
Since the underlined verb is in the incorrect form eliminate A and any choice that repeats the mistake. This eliminates A and B.

Chunk and Compare:
C and D both use the simple present tense, but D uses the pronoun "it". There is nothing to which this pronoun refers so it is incorrect. Eliminate D.
Compare D to E. E uses the correct present participle which describes an action that happened simultaneously to another action in the past. D uses the simple present, which describes event in the present, which is incorrect, since the expansion happened last month. Eliminate.

Reread your choice:
Choose E.
