ps_dahiya,

so you are saying that the bold one is right and other option is wrong. Can you pls give the reason why other option of each sentence is worng?

thanks
cj

What I have written in green in earlier post, try that with other sentence and then see how sentence goes. lets see first one

Julia was able to climb the tree as fast as her brothers did able to climb.

Julia was able to climb the tree as fast as her brothers were. able to climb.

Now which one is better.

Am I right guys???

I would choose

Julia was able to climb the tree as fast as her brothers were.

Sam was away on Vacation longer than his friends were.

Which one of each is correct and why ..?

Julia was able to climb the tree as fast as her brothers did.

Julia was able to climb the tree as fast as her brothers were.

Sam was away on Vacation longer than his friends were.

Sam was away on Vacation longer than do his friends .

Owning a car is still Dan's goal as it was of his parents when they were his age.

Owning a car is still Dan's goal as was of his parents when they were his age.

Pls explain your answers ....

Lets put the sentences in present tense, maybe we'll see more clearly.

Julia is able to climb as fast as her brothers do/are.

Here "do" is correct, I think, because it's an action, a process the author refers to. Accordingly it would be "did" in the sentence proposed by Cool Johnny

Sam is away on vacation longer than
(do) his friends are.

Here it is a situation the author refers to, I think, so that I suggest it's "are". Accordingly it would be "were" in the original sentence.

The third is clearly:
Owning a car is still Dan's goal as it was of his parents when they were his age.
