Agree it should be C.

We need to do a logical comparison between the women who retired completely and women who took jobs after retirement.

We need to compare the women here, not marital satisfaction.

so refers to "high satisfaction" here. And I don't think there is a subjunctive mood.

A study ..... found that women.... reported high marital satisfaction, which was more so than those retiring completely

I would go for 'D'...

What is wrong with the above...

Comparison is made between two groups of women who had experienced different levels of satisfaction... So it can't be hypothetical
