Then, the OA is A? Anybody can explain why not C? I'm getting confused bt A and C now..

them has clear referant in A.

C has a mix of modifying phrase and clause. it should only have phrase. therefore C is not correct.

phrase: "slowly moving closer to the surface of the object for making ever more precise measurements"

clause: "scientists hope that they will be able to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago".

C/D/E are awakward for using for making, for the purpose of making and in order to

guys,
is the use of ever here correct in saying "ever more precise ". even more than what ?

i think more x than ever is more appropiate here and D looks better to me than A.

IMO, "that" is not refering to scientists.
"that" is just a conjuction here. that...........will enable.......
A is good because:
- "to make" is properly used
- "that" is needed
- "them" is clearly refering to "scientists"
