C.

average should qualify the numbers not global warming so A, B and E are out.

Between C and D,

Project needs to be without S for the group so D.

Also, averages between sounds better than everages from.

D.

A GROUP of scientists...this subject is singular, so we need a singular verb with projects.

A,B,C are out.

D is better than E b/c it refers to the projected warming to be from x to y. Not "an average global warming" to be between x and y.

I dont think there's anything wrong with saying from x to y. I dont think between x and y is needed here.

group....projects is the correct SV agreement.

Choose (E) over D because of it`s smoother flow.

OA is E. Thanks Guys

Group is singular, so you need the singular form " projects"

I think it's E as oppsed to D for the reasons Selene mentioned -

Global warming cannot be average from X and Y
However, the AVERAGE global warming can be between X and Y.

How can "a group of scientists" be singular :?: :?:

I t must be plural.

We say a group of people are waiting in the queue. Not "is waiting.."

:no

Usage of 'we' demands 'are' and not because of the group...

How about this ??
The group is waiting please attend to them asap.

I don't understand "we" and "are" :? There is no "we" in the sentence :!:

What makes me confused is :

"An international group of more than 2000 scientists projects..". How can this be singular ??

If we said:

"An international group from more than 2000 scientists"

then we can use a singular verb.

But here it is just like " A group of people/ A group of students ..." .We use a plural verb after that.

A group of people are visiting the museum.

Any comments :?: :?:

I think when deciding whether the "group" is singular or plural depends on the context because "group" nouns can be singular or plural depending on whether the group as an entity performs the verb or whether individual members of the group perform the verb action

The group of dogs is small
The group of dogs are being walked around the park now.

I think both are correct.

And I think this applies to other "group nouns" - majority, party, family, staff,..as well

In the context of our question:
the group of more than 2000 scientists (collectively) projects an average global warming of between 1.8 and 6.3 degrees fahrenheit ...
Therefore, we need the singular verb "projects" because the verb is applied to the group as a single entity.

THOUGHTS???

I selected E.

group...projects...between..and

between..and is idiomatic.

scientists collectively project....

Group depends on the usage involved.

straight from dictionary.com
Usage Note: Group as a collective noun can be followed by a singular or plural verb. It takes a singular verb when the persons or things that make up the group are considered collectively: The dance group is ready for rehearsal. Group takes a plural verb when the persons or things that constitute it are considered individually: The group were divided in their sympathies
