Again really weird question.
What is the source?

But anyway I vote for D. It should be 'One of whom...'
But I'm not sure in that expression 'now retires'. :?:

he is now retiring... meaning he is in the process of retiring... you can't retire on a daily basis... so can't be 'retires'

A. can't be right, because it can't modify six full professors... there is no logic... only six full professors, one whom is now retiring
B. only six full professors, one of them (professors) WHO is now retiring
C. 'who he' is awkward
D. 'now' retires is incorrect OUT
E. which refers to things...OUT

B should be correct

I would choose A if it were "One of whom". But the OF is missing so I will choose B, even if I don't like the "WHO".

They are all bad choices, but the least evil one is B.

A. This should read "one of whom". Maybe it's a typo.

B. Not grammatically correct.

D. Could be the one, but "now retires" is awkward.

E. Referring to people should be who or whom, not which.

CDE are outright bad.

Assuming that A does not have a typo, I guess B is the lesser evil here.A would be right had it contained "one OF whom" but "one whom" is really wierd. I go for B.

A looks the best.

Use of "whom" creates no ambiguity and clearly refers to professors

To u2lover, in my opinion we should have a clause after choice 'B':

For the last fifteen years, Penbrook University has had the smallest tenured and tenure-track faculty in the state with only six full professors, one of them, who is now retiring, ...clause...

In A. 'of' is omitted - 'one OF whom is now retiring'.

Where is the author of this strange post :?:
