Why is B wrong ? According to your logic,
Although he is eccentric (negative), he is a genius and wants recognition. (genius - positive, wants recognition - positive)

The "and" part should tell us more about his "soft" nature.
in B, i dont think "wanting recognition" is a part of being genius
B would be perfectly valid in the following case
Although he is eccentric, he is a genius and has won XYZ prize for
economics

E is correct because is properly prefaces the main clause with the subordinate one, thus "setting the stage" for the main clause.
B, C, are wrong because they change the meaning of the sentence by swithching main and subordinate parts.
if you know punctuation rules, you will eliminate A, C, and D immediately. However, I cannot choose between B and E--they both are OK.
But, why answers A and D look same?

Is your explanation specific to this SC ?
in general, i think subordinate clause may be before or after the main
clause.
is that correct?

In this kind of sentence, the subordinate clause "sets the stage" for the main clause, hence it should introduce it.
All the rest are wrong because the move something from the main to subordinate clause, or vice versa, hence changing the meaning of the sentence.

Good question. I selected C, for its perfect match with Although X,Y.Idiom.Moreover, C satisfies not only the perfect Idiom Although X,Y, but also the parallel comparision across And.
But now I agree that E is a better option. Meaning Meaning Meaning !!!!!
