@UVS, taking this sentence a step further, do you understand why the colon is used here?

Another explanation could be that "it" here does not have a clear antecedent. "it" could refer to wind power or energy. Answer choice C takes away this ambiguity. E does not have "it" but it is awkward in construction.

To separate an explanation or example from a preceding independent clause.

Example: After a sleepless night, the senator made her decision: she would not seek re-election.
