I would go with A. "native to" is right usage, as it is rat and not a human being. E is awkward. "has been" in C does nt seem to be appropriate.

Hence A.

Going with A

according to the rule tht says" native to" for animals..

and the all imp word "could". All other choices distort the probability tense...

need native-to . So its down to A and C.
A makes more sense. So, A.

If E were written as:

Having survived the arrival of man on Cyprus and being considered a "living fossil," the mouse, according to experts, has been a native of the eastern Mediterranean island.

It could be a correct option.

Good catch Basik, but remember that both "native to" (used as an adjective) and "native of" (used as a noun) are acceptable idioms.
