Some of the most wrenching images of 1985 were, starving of Ethiopian children, the 'desert' of the Sahel of Africa and famine stalking country after country.

A. starving of Ethiopian children, the 'desert' of the Sahel of Africa and famine
B. starvation of Ethiopian children, the 'desertification of the Sahel in Africa and famine
C. starvation and 'desertification of Ethiopian children and the Sahel in Africa and famine
D. starving children of Ethiopia, 'desertifying' the Sahel of Africa and famine
E. starving Ethiopian children, the 'desertification' of the Sahel in Africa and famine

I don't have an OA. Let us solve this one

I think the answer is E.
The three images were of children, the desertification and famine.

B says that the images were of the starvation. Good question I think..

B - passive, passive, passive

E - active, passive, passive

Therefore, I choose B as it is consistent.

Is this reasoning valid?

I beg to differ. Picking E.
"starving ...children" seems better here.

can there be an image of starvation of children? The image can be only of starving children.

I would go with E.

B: Some of the most wrenching images of 1985 were starvation of Ethiopian children, the 'desertification' of the Sahel in Africa and famine stalking country after country.

E: Some of the most wrenching images of 1985 were starving Ethiopian children, the 'desertification' of the Sahel in Africa and famine stalking country after country.

Was initially leaning twds E, although in B the 3 items start w/ a noun... B should win the //ism game against E...

"Starving Ethiopian Children" qualifies for an image better than does "starvation of Ethiopian children" which appears more like a 'process'

Otherwise I don't think B and E have a lot of difference.

I would go for E.

Eliminate the middle part for better understanding.

B. Some of the most wrenching images of 1985 were, starvation of Ethiopian children and famine stalking country after coutnry.

E. Some of the most wrenching images of 1985 were, starving Ethiopian children and famine stalking country after country.

I pick E.
