This was indeed a tough SC. I will go with E. E seems the best idiomatic choice: not so much X as Y

What's the OA.

very difficult to pick an answer when I'm having difficulty comprehending the question...

....but with go with E purely based on the 'not so much X as Y' comparison

According to one expert, the cause of genetic irregularities

how come?? isnt the expert clearly discussin gthe cause of genetic irregularities??

it is not C-they?? who is they?? not clearly definied.. same with D--who is their?? that is how i elliminated those 2.. also B--their being bred? same thing.. who is their.. and it isnt 'cleal'

that is how i elliminated it between A and E

but i initially thought A?!?!?

According to one expert, the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds of dog is not much that dogs are being bred for looks or to meet the other narrow criteria as that the breeds have relatively few founding members.

A.

B. the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds of dog is not as much their being bred for looks or meeting other narrow criteria as much

C. it is not so much the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds of dog that they are being bred for looks or meeting other narrow criteria as much

D. it is not so much that the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds of dog is their being bred for looks or meeting other narrow criteria so much

E. it is not so much the cause of genetic irregularities in many breeds of dog to be bred for looks or to meet other narrow criteria

I think thi sSC is testing for Idiom "not so much ..as"
my Pick is E

The question was in Power Prep. There is no Typo in the question. It s absolutely correct.

Tonight, I will check the real answer and post it but this is my understanding.....

Try making it a run-on sentence. Remove the “of….” Construction and read it again.

According to one expert, the cause is not much that dogs are being bred for looks or to meet the other narrow criteria as that the breeds have relatively few founding members.

“It is not so much” in C, D, and E do not make any sense. Out of “A” and “B”, you can clearly choose “A”. B is not making any sense.

I will check the real answer and post it.

Ni idea.I have no choice. Very though one.
A does not seem to be the answer because of parallelism. So does B.
However, the rest are meaningless.
