(d) a certain eloquence
(e) that he seem eloquent

A - being - out
C,E - not || - out

D a close choice but a certain eloquence while saying nothing doesn't sound right.

between c and d:
looks, showmanship requires -> eloquence

I choose "having eloquence", it is conjuncted by "and" with "saying nothing" (gerund)

Official answer is 'B', what I don't get is the parallel structure,

showmanship, good looks and THE ABILITY TO SEEM ELOQUENT' while saying nothing

vs


showmanship, good looks and HAVING ELOQUENCE while saying nothing.

vs

showmanship, good looks and A CERTAIN ELOQUENCE while saying nothing

A - Out, usage of "being", lacks parallelism
B - Seems ok, but lacks parallelism (need explanation)
C - Gerund form, lacks parallelism
D - Obvious choice though seems a little awkward in the original sentence

I picked B. Can't really say why D is wrong. B just sounds much better to me.

Also, is the first sentence correct?

"The quality needed in a president are scarcely" Why is quality plural?
