I would say the answer is E although I was initially leaning towards D at first..

E changes the stem too much.

D seems perfect to me.
Can you tell me why you think E is right and D is wrong.

I agree that E changes stem too much. But in D do you think happy to be finished is correct usage?

flip E and it looks a bit ambiguous.

The mechanic closed the hood over the newly tuned engine, with the pleasant fatigue of a job well done.

Modifier should be as close to the noun as possible.


D should be it

Thanks mate. I've read that answer choices with "BEING" are often wrong.

D is the correct answer, according to Cliff GMAT. However, can anyone tell me the structure "happy to be finished a work" is okay?[/b]

For D to be right, there should be a comma after work. Unless the underlined portion of the sentence does not include the comma.....
