well, this is how i chose D.

killing of vs to kill
we choose the infinitive over the gerund

Therefore AE are wrong.
Out of BCD, I did not spot any errors but D was the most concise.

Require that a 60 percent minimum alcohol concentration be present - is redundant and awkward

X% concentration itself shows the state of dilution (or concentration) - we don't require a concentration to be present - we want a solution to HAVE a certain concentration. That's why the other choices are awkward and hence I eliminated them.

Straight D

Subjunctive requires either a conditional (something that isn't true), or the imperative (commands from a document, judge, person, etc). In this case it's a hand sanitizer........ I don't think hand santizers give out orders, do they? =P

According to a recent study, hand sanitizers require a 60 percent minimum alcohol concentration for the killing of most harmful bacteria and viruses.
a) require a 60 percent minimum alcohol concentration for the killing of
b) require that there be a 60 percent minimum alcohol concentration to kill
c) require that a 60 percent minimum alcohol concentration be present to kill
d) require a 60 percent minimum alcohol concentration to kill
e) require that there be a 60 percent minimum alcohol concentration for the killing of

Isnt this sentense Subjunctive ?

to kill is the correct idiom. So A and E are out. B and C introduce c clause. Also C is passive.

D is concise and idiomatic.

a -> 'for the killing of' is not concise
b,c -> 'that' is not required
e -> lenghty and awkward

d is best.
