I agree if its as well as... then consider singular but for "and"consider plural.

I think it should be singular..

As the verb goes by the subject nearest to it when we use 'as well as'.

Therefore (B)..

But I am quite anxious to know how 'gained by' is different from 'gained from'.

Is the usage 'is to be gained by' acceptable?? :oops:

"along with, in addition to , as well as, acompnaied by,together with, including"

Honor as well as profit is to be gained by this work. (Honor is singular).

profits as well as Honor are to be gained by this work. (Profits is plural)

as per your rule it should be
profits as well as Honor is to be gained by this work. (Profits is plural)


Your rule applies to disjuntive phrase like " Or", "Either ... or", "Neither ... nor"

Neither profits nor Honor is to be gained by this work. (Correct)

Correct me if I am wrong.
