Comparison question.
A. wrong, 'it' must refer to a noun so it could be comparing "women over the age of thrity" with "born to women..."
B. correct
C. pronoun "they" is ambiguous
D/E wrong tense "had been"

Between A and B, i would choose A as the age of the women are compared not babies

C - they confuses about antecedent

From A and B:
'it' refers to 'the age of thirty"

if we break up the sentence:
A. more babies were (over the level).. than under it
B. more babies were (over the level).. than were under it

B looks correct.

'A' makes sense

over the age of thirty than under it. - adjective phrase which modifies woman
we don't need an adjective clause here - no need of verbal action and other nouns

Over [something] than under it - over ...& under brings out the contrast. than - is used nicely as this is relative comparision

A. is unclear. the comparison should be between babies born to women over 30 and babies born to women under 30
B. clear and correct
C. they who?
D. bad construction
E. bad construction
