I stick to A, In D why "and" should be used again...

X is happening,becoming Y and Z.
Not
X is happening and Y and Z.

D should be
X is happeing and Y happened and Z happened.

I don't know if I make sense, please do correct me in case of error

(A),becoming the tenth most intense hurricane [ This is correctly modifying the strength but creating incomplete sentence and this sentence is describing an event in the past, so why to have “ing” form – eliminate it]

(B),to become the tenth most intense hurricane [ Why to introduce an infinite – Eliminate it]

(C),so much as to become the tenth most intense hurricane [Eliminate it]

(D)and became the tenth most intense hurricane [ Hold it]

(E),so much that it was the tenth most intense hurricane[“It” referent issue – eliminate it]

Answer: D

Answer: D

In A, I am not sure if participle phrase "becoming the tenth most intense hurricane" modifies strength. It should have been placed closed to Hugo as an adjectival phrase.
