In April 1997, Hillary Rodham Clinton hosted an all-day White House scientific conference on new findings that indicates a child’s acquiring language, thinking, and emotional skills as an active process that may be largely completed before age three

A. that indicates a child’s acquiring language, thinking, and emotional skills as

B. that are indicative of a child acquiring language, thinking, and emotional skills as

C. to indicate that when a child acquires language, thinking, and emotional skills, that it is

D. indicating that a child’s acquisition of language, thinking, and emotional skills is

E. indicative of a child’s acquisition of language, thinking, and emotional skills as

A - subject verb agreement flaw.

B - comparing child with a process

C - to indicate.. doesn't sound right.

D - sounds right. The child's acquisition (a noun) is clearly matched by a singular verb.

E - doesn't sound good.

In D or E, how are you sure that 'indicating' or 'indicative' does not modify 'conference'?

There is no "comma (,)". This tells me that indicating modifies findings not the conferences.

PS: who is this bowler by the way? Is this Sir Richard Hadlee?

sanjay,

So if there's a comma, it i will introduce ambiguity? hmmm.
Bowler is not Hadlee, he's just an imaginary bowler from an Australian board cricketing manual.....

well, "that" or "which" modify whatever precedes it. Also, the logical meaning of the sentence is that the findings indicate, not the conference indicates.

I might be quick , but can some one explain why "is" is correct in option D.

indicating that a child’s acquisition of language, thinking, and emotional skills is

For example,
indicating that choclates are good for health.
indicating that smoking is bad for health.
indicating that smoking and drinking are bad for health.

So it should be,
indicating that a child’s acquisition of language, thinking, and emotional skills are

child's acquisition (of language, thinking, and emotional skills)...

acquisition is the singular noun. Hence "IS".

In the options A, B, and C use of relative pronoun, that, and infinitive cause confusion about which noun is receiving the phrase that follows them. So they are bad choices. E obviously got a bad construct. Remember MGMAT SC guide talking about this exception.
