You need to compare the same things.

In E you have:

As X are, Y is.

To be correct it would need to be:

As X are, Y are.

The growth rate is being compared directly to performance indicators, not what performace indicators are doing.

A does this:

Like X, Y is ....

I am stuck between C and E.
I will go with E. (60% sure)

Man! thought I can handle these 'as' and 'like' questions...but looks like need to brush up again.

I completely missed the amount/number issue. But now I'm completely confused

if were left with C and E. 'Like' is used to comare two Nouns and 'As' is used to compare two clauses (phrase that includes a verb) Knowing this I would have to say E. e As other performance indicators are , the growth rate of a start-up business is generally related to the amount of time and number of I believe the use of the word 'are' makes this a clause and therefore 'as' not 'like' is needed. In other words: The growth rate is related to ...,as other performance indicators are. I would love any comments to help me clarify my thought process!

Betwen E and C, E is better because "Like" is used to compare noun with noun. C has the word "are" in the first phrase, meaning that "like" should no longer be used.
