Results from the 1998 national Demographic and Health Survey confirm that, even when compared with densely populated countries like Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation's fertility rates consistently exceed all of its Southeast Asian neighbors.
A. B. like Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation consistently exhibits fertility rates exceeding all C. such as Thailand and Indonesia, the fertility rates exhibited by the Philippine nation are consistently exceeding those of all D. such as Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation's fertility rates consistently exceed all those of E. such as Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation consistently exhibits fertility rates that exceed those of all
---- OA: E my question is:
suppose, the rest of the sentence is the same for D and E:
D. such as Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation consistently exhibits fertility rates that exceed all those of E. such as Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation consistently exhibits fertility rates that exceed those of all
how is the placement of 'all' change the meaning of the sentence?
Thanks.

We need "such as" here so eliminate A,B
Comparison is between countries, so eliminae C
Eliminate D because of the placement of "All". In D this seems to be saying the fertility rates (of which there are several) exceed all the fertility rates of its neighbours (which implies that each neighbour could have many rates). This does not make sense
In E, the comparison is clear. It correctly says that the rates of the Phillipines > rates of ALL neighbours individually.
E First, you narrow it down to CDE, because you want to use the phrase "such as". Second, the subject in the sentence is "the phil nation" not "the rate", thus only E is correct.

Philippine nation rates exceed all those[rates] of Southe Asian Countries --> all rates of South Asian Countries ( here it looks like all rates of South asian countries together -- which is wrong) Philippine nation rates exceed those[rates] of all Southe Asian Countries (Here it exceeds indiviually each South Aisan neighbours' rates)
Such as vs. Like usage issue – Such as is used to provide examples where as like is used to provide similarity.
Eliminate A, B A. B. like Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation consistently exhibits fertility rates exceeding all C. such as Thailand and Indonesia, the fertility rates exhibited by the Philippine nation are consistently exceeding those of all [ Passive Voice – eliminate it]
D. such as Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation's fertility rates consistently exceed all those of [ Illogical comparison – nations’ fertility rates compared against other nations – eliminate it]
E. such as Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation consistently exhibits fertility rates that exceed those of all
Answer: E
