Because of the efforts of Amory Lovins and other advocates of the "soft" path of solar energy, the economics of nuclear power are being more closely examined now than ever before.

A. being more closely examined now than ever before
B. being attacked more vigorously then ever before
C. open to closer examination than they ever were before
D. more closely examined than before
E. more examined than they ever were before now

A looks extremely wordy with "being" and "ever before"...but how come it's OA??? Pls someone tell me why D is wrong. Thanks.

Doesn't option D changes meaning of sentence?
"more closely examined than before" It leaves out "now" so we don't know when it is examined closely?

I don't know the exact source of these questions. I have received a bunch of xerox sheets of SC tests from an ex-GMATer. So, have been solving them and posting the ones i find it difficult to explain.

Glad that I posted these here. Its good to read the line of thought behind each answer.

Thanks everyone!
