The earliest texts in cuneiform script are about 5,000 years old, having antedated the use of the first alphabets by some 1,500 years.
a) old, having antedated the use
b) old, having antedated the invention
c) old, antedating the use
d) old and antedate the use
e) old and antedate the invention

Pls, post explanations!

D.

IMO "antedating" in C is gerund and isn't present progressive tense; and so are A & B (gerund phrase "having antedated")
and can be eliminated.

Between D & E.
I will vote for D, because "invention of first alphabets" sounds incorrect.

Good Explanation! OA is D.[/quote}

I realized my mistake and foudn antother error and why D is right

D. The subject verb agreement is correct in D

Texts are "old"
and
Texts "antedate" the use...

Hence A, B, and C are out.

E. invention is worng and it has to state "use"
