A and B missing sub ordinate coordinator – “that” modifies plans
Eliminate A and B


a) imposing stricter limits on medical services and requiring doctors to see more patients, and spend

b) imposing stricter limits on medical services, requiring doctors to see more patients, and spending

c) that impose stricter limits on medical services, require doctors to see more patients, and spend

d) that impose stricter limits on medical services and require doctors to see more patients, spending [ Plans cannot modify “spending” – eliminate it]

e) that impose stricter limits on medical services, requiring doctors to see more patients, and spending [require parallel construction that impose…, require…, and spend – eliminate it]

D is my choice. plans that impose....... and require doctors.......
Although C is tempting because of its parallism but it means plans spend less time with each other which is wrong.

IMO D. // "impose"..."require" and "spending" without and is the right choice because they will spend less time due to the fact that the insurance plans require them to see more patients.

I think it should be E.Requiring doctors to see more patients, and spending is a subordinate clause and hence comes after the main clause in the -ing form.

the OA is D... but to me, it looked like "spending" was modifying "patients"... any thoughts?

In a real exam, not sure if I would have caught this...

so we can agree its one of the 3 last choices (c, d, e) due to the "that" modifier

At this point, the approach I used was to single out the 'least wrong answer' instead of the 'most correct'.

Both C and E use parallellism. This is blatantly wrong as mentioned in earlier posts (restrictive plans cannot spend less time with patients).

In this case, D is the least inccorect.
