IMO the answer is C.
Because as a result of makes the statement more clear instead of from poor eating habbits and others get eliminated because of what you have mentioned earlier about drawing a parallel between the 2 sentences.

What is the OA ?

Doctors at the CDC have hypothesized that with the current dietetic and lifestyle trends in America one in three people should develop diabetes from poor eating habits and a lack of exercise, while in sub-Saharan Africa and other developing nations one in twenty people can be expected to befall a similar fate.

(A) one in three people should develop diabetes from poor eating habits and a lack of exercise
(B) one out of every three people should develop diabetes as a result of poor eating habits and a lack of exercise
(C) one in three people will develop diabetes as a result of poor eating habits and a lack of exercise
(D) one out of every three people will develop diabetes from poor eating habits and a lack of exercise
(E) one in three people will develop diabetes by eating poorly and not exercising enough

Please explain your answer.

regards,

This is a hypothesis . So I guess we should not use "should" as we have in A and B

In D we have "one out of" which does not parallel with "one in twenty"

C sounds parallel. E is also close.

"as a result of" sounds better. So I pick C

OA is C. Can you please explain why "should" is bad to use? I still didn't get that.
thanks

Just my 2 cents on should vs will/would
Hypothesis is more like a prediction, If you do X , Y will happen ; Stimulus X will lead to result Y

Should is used in requests , obligations .

I think the only exception is usage of Should inplace of IF in If .... then clause .

As pointed out above by Nihit .A hypothesis cannot say "This SHOULD happen".

regards,
I had marked D simply because i did not like developed as a result of a lack of exercise !!! develop diabetes from a lack of exercise !!

but this funda was pathetic at my end

I was pretty clear about the usage of the WILL since the prediction will always use WILL and obligation uses SHOULD .
HE SHOULD DO SO.
HE WILL DO SO .

here first says he should do but may or may not do so.
second one says he will definitely do so.

hence OA as C is acceptable !!!
