B) being... is the problem
C) we need a comma before but and the construction is awkward.
d) being... is the problem
e) unnecessary use of it in the parenthetic expression.

I'd go with B. A looks good too, but  being  is the right word to use when giving an explanation (i.e. why it wasn't sophisticated as Maya)

OA is A. But, I was wondering isn't a language compared to Maya in(A)? (agree with gamecode). I picked (E) as well

..a written language, but it was not as ......as that of the Maya .....

language is compared to that of ( language of) maya. Thus there is no problem
