I will go with D, because IMO comma is at right place.

can some one explain when to use 'and' and comma, and only 'and' without comma?

i feel E

because the other statements which don't have "you" in them sound as if it should have come under inverted commas "" (like somebody is saying directly to us ).

A is not parallel

whats the OA ?

I am glad to see I am not the only one thought about missing 'you', the subject.

Anyone else?

"First put on your skis and then adjust the binders" sounds nature to native speaker, but in GMAT, it adheres the rules of Standard Written English(SWE). I believe it should follow the rule of Subj + Verb, which eliminate B, C, and D.

Only remaining choices are A and E.

E makes perfect sense, but I don't see problem with A as well since 'you' can be implied on the first clause. Then again, I maybe wrong. GMAT may allow some exceptions.

What is OA?

Good one... what is the source??

I am going to play devil's advocate and choose C... here is why
- if instructions are being given to a person.... then we logically say - First put on your skis and then adjust your binders - as in A, B, D , E
But in C it states that your binders should be adjusted. May be because adjusting binders could mean more than one thing...which it why the person wants to make sure that your binders should be adjusted.

This is called overworking your brains for all the wrong reasons...:P

Incidentally binders is a slang for breaks... so much for the use of formal language in gmat!!!

going with E here is why:

ritula
First put on your skis, and then you should adjust the binders.

A) First put on your skis, and then you should adjust the binders.
worst than E
B) First put on your skis and then adjust the binders.
lack of a subject
C) First put on your skis and then your binders should be adjusted.
passive voice
D) First put on your skis, and then adjust the binders.
lack of a subject
E) First you should put on your skis and then adjust the binders.

a more informative explanation would help :)

A is not parallel

i though the same, but E is as much not parallel if you think about it. I picked E simply because it was more logical to say "you should x" first and then the rest

First put on your skis, and then you should adjust the binders.

A) First put on your skis, and then you should adjust the binders. There is no subject in the first part

B) First put on your skis and then adjust the binders.then adjust the binder..does not specify which and what binder... also..the first problem is not yet solved

C) First put on your skis and then your binders should be adjusted.your binders? or skies binder???

D) First put on your skis, and then adjust the binders.same as B

E) First you should put on your skis and then adjust the binders.Although it changes a meaning a little bit..but only this one is grammatically correct.. IMO its E

What is the Official Answer and official explanation?

B is correct, comma and and and are used when we join two independant clauses.

e.g. I am going to office, and I intend to work there. :)

First put on your skis and then adjust the binders

The above sentence has a single instruction, and it does not have two independant clauses.

One more take on this question with a new knowledge.

The ans is B here is why:

ritula
First put on your skis, and then you should adjust the binders.

A) First put on your skis, and then you should adjust the binders.
lack of parallelism

B) First put on your skis and then adjust the binders.
First X Second Y - parallel

C) First put on your skis and then your binders should be adjusted.
passive and not parallel

D) First put on your skis, and then adjust the binders.
comma is incorrectly used. Correct use of comma: Independent Clause, Coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS)* Independent Clause

E) First you should put on your skis and then adjust the binders.
not parallel: First you should put Second adjust

*FANBOYS=For And Nor But Or Yet So
