going with A here is why:
cutting thrugh the forest of words in search for the meaning of the sentence we get:
Libraries in Europe are not subjected to the extreme conditions that damage collections in the US.
B- wrong: for correct comparison "as of those" is needed
C- wrong: Libraries in Europe are not subjected to the extreme conditions as damage collections in the US.
D and E - wrong: change of the original meaning: books in europe last long not because the climate is fairly humid but because of extreme conditions in US
